I like when links open new windows except if it's a link to another page in that site then it's annoying.

I think several of these depend on the vibe of the blog. If it's a how-to blog I expect capitalization and most of the other points you made but one of the blogs I read is a conversational blog that is well written but breaks #1, #8, #20 and it works for that blog.

Oh man #25 is the WORST!! Yes, please do not apologize. Do you really think the readers are up in arms b/c you've not posted for 2 days?

Actually, I think your list describes a lot of grammar & format issues to avoid in general. I think this list could be expanded to more topics specific to blogging...here's what I'd add....

1) adding music to your blog (DON'T DO IT!)
2) not having a clear way to contact you (no about, email, contact form, etc.)
3) using reverse type for the body of your posts (white or light text on dark background)
4) failing to network/reach out to other bloggers in your niche
5) no consistency with post frequency (some new bloggers may use up a TON of their best content with fury at the start only to wane 6-8 weeks out)
6) using overly cutesy or distracting avatars, designs, or images. My eyes aren't the greatest and if the blog is too obnoxious with the design or too hard to read, I'm clicking out.

Great topic. I'd be interested to see what others have to add to the mix!!

Most of that is true but it also depends on the type of blog you have and your theme and writing style. There should not be a right vs. wrong way for one to run their own blog (especially if it's personal).

I agree with most of your points! People should pay attention to these things! I do think that emoticons are ok in a more relaxed post, though. And opening links in a new window usually just annoys me, though some people prefer it. As for hyphens: what if you're British? I hear they hyphenate *everything*. :-)
